Awake and sleep EEG activation procedures and artefacts
Quatrième de couverture
The aim of this extensively illustrated atlas is to better the knowledge of visual analysis of EEGs for neurologists, neuropediatricians, and other specialists who use electroencephalography, as well as EEG technologists. The first volume of this series of atlases covers the scope of the main features of physiological EEG wake and sleep activities in children and adults, activation procedures and the most commonly found artifacts. Indeed, a more thorough knowledge of these elements is necessary so as not to misinterpret them as pathological traits. Pathological traits will be focused on in the coming volumes. So that this atlas can also be user-friendly for initial and advanced self-study, the EEG plates are full-size and the characteristic elements are reviewed and discussed in detail. Each chapter begins with a review of technical features and a description of physiological EEG patterns. After that, these patterns are illustrated with a large number of EEG plates. The first chapter indicates how to carry out visual analysis of the usual and unusual rhythms observed in wake EEGs. The second chapter focuses on activation procedures and responses to hyperventilation or intermittent photic stimulation. The third chapter deals with visual analysis of sleep EEGs at different stages and visual analysis of their characteristic physiological or unusual figures. The last chapter focuses on the most common physiological and nonphysiological artifacts.
