Quatrième de couverture

From the earliest times, rural life was never kind to women. They were invisible, never spoken of. And yet, there they were, carrying out social and agricultural tasks. Legislation began to evolve in the 1960s, and continues to do so today, in the 21st century.

Throughout this evolution, women have made up their minds to take their destiny into their own hands. Both young and not as young, the women of cognac are a shining example of this. Today, women can be found in all cognac-related activities : farm managers, company directors, winegrowers, distillers, cellar masters, wine and brandy brokers, and coopers. Most of them have traveled the world. Some have earned multiple university degrees ; they have all returned to the Charentes wine-growing region.

They tell the story of their careers.

Beacons of a region's economic life, ambassadors of charm, despite their differences, they are all one and the same. They are the women of today and the promise for tomorrow !

Biographie

A lawyer, musician and equestrian, Monique Fillioux left Paris to settle in the Charente region in 1977, afier marrying a winemaker.
She soon became responsible for Jean Fillioux cognacs' management and marketing. She was also in charge of communications for a period of thirty-eight years, often expressing the detailed thoughts of her less talkative husband, Pascal Fillioux, a very talented cellar master for the eponymous house. Drawn to music, she organizes piano concerts in their family home.
A passionate cook, in 2003 she published « Réception à La Pouyade », a collection of her own recipes made with cognac and pineau. Other publications followed, including childrens books, with several projects currently underway. She has contributed to several collective works focusing on the Charente region in 2014, and in 2019 published an analytical work about a womens place in the Charente region... a subject that is not unlike her own role as a woman and wife at the Jean Fillioux cognac house !
