Quatrième de couverture

When Diane von Furstenberg created her wrap dress in the 1970s, she had no idea how far that simple design would take her. In the decade when women were entering the workplace and celebrating their sexual freedom, the wrap dress became a symbol of power and liberation. By 1976 Diane had sold more than 5 million signature dresses-revolutionizing the way women dressed worldwide. Almost 20 years later, propelled by the nostalgia for '70s styles, Diane re-emerged on the New York fashion scene with her famous wrap updated for a new generation of chic young women. In this volume, André Leon Talley examines the history of the "wrap" phenomenon, from its revolutionary early days to its ever-popular present.
