Henri Matisse

From 1942 to 1954, Monique Bourgeois, later Sister Jacques-Maries, describes her encouter with Henri Matisse that led to the cration of the Rosaire Chapel in Vence.

Year after year, she provides a living testimony to the collaboration that bound her to the artist. The publication in this work of the correspondence between Matisse and Sister Jacques-Marie reveals the depth of their relationship.

This work required four years of exclusive, contant effort. It is the fruit of my whole working life. In spite of all its imperfections. I consider it as my masterpiece.
