Quatrième de couverture

A thrilling trip through time and space, How the Old Streets Got their Names is a book which satisfies the curiosity regarding the stories behind the names on the street signs in Bucharest. This volume is a useful tool not only for the specialists in urban cultural history, but also for the readers interested to link the current urban structure with the old shape of the city, and to collect echoes from long-forgotten times, covered now by the noise of our hectic present life. As a cultural history of Bucharest, How the Old Streets Cot their Names will further strengthen the emotional connection between the inhabitants and the city they live in, but it may also weave a special relationship between the city and the visitor who makes his/her first steps on the streets of Bucharest.
