Il fallait un hymne posthume
Pour nos chers amis les légumes.
C'est pourquoi les voici en robe des champs
Ou alors, miex, épluchés en nos chants,
Assaisonnés parfois de rires et de fruits
Ou bien tout occupés à mûrir loin du bruit.
Merci à vous, ma nourrissante troupe !
Et maintenant par ici la bonne soupe !

'Tis time we had a posthumous ode
For the vegetables, our friends of old.
So in our song here they all are,
In their jackets, or, better yet,
Peeled and spiced with fruit and laughs,
Or busy ripening along,
Far from the noisy throng.
My thanks to you, nourishing troop !
