Quatrième de couverture

When Art Kept'Em Flying

A celebration of American aviation artists and their contribution in World War Two

With this book, Georges Grod invites you to undertake a fabulous voyage to all the regions and fiery skies where the men and women of the US Army Air Forces served and fought.

Discover, or rediscover, their exploits and preoccupations, but also their everyday lives via a selection of over 350 adverts made for the industrial and commercial companies that took part in the formidable American war effort.

See how these illustrators were responsible for the greatest ever artistic mobilisation ever seen in the United States in order to support their fighting personnel and the workers on the Home Front.

The book also covers the careers of these illustrators, most of whom have been identified here.

Biographie

Georges Grod, was a young boy when France was liberated. He saw the American aircraft in the sky before seeing their illustrations in magazines that were first given to him by GIs, then found, many years later, at specialist fairs or in bookshops.
